You may have heard something about Mexican Wrestling before. Some Mexican Wrestlers have made it into the big leagues like WWE, for example Rey Mysterio.

The brilliant thing about Lucha Libre is the glittery and colourful costumes, capes and face masks. It's also very dramatic with lots of flying around the place.

My hostel was offering a tour so I decided to go along - culturally this is really big in Mexico and it would be a great thing to talk about in my Year 12 lessons on Patrimonio Cultural (Cultural Heritage).

Firstly we had a tequila in the hostel bar. Again, this is very culturally important here in Mexico and at some point I will have to write a blog post about the Agave plant and all of its uses! Then we had a "Mexican swear words lesson", because apparently youre expected to shout profanities at the wrestling. I found this to be true, even though it was full of families and children! What was great about this being a hostel organised activity was that we went as a group on the Subway. I probably wouldn't have gone on the Subway on my own so it was fantastic to experience it.

The Lucha Libre show was hilarious. I could barely tell which were the Técnicos (the good team) and the Rudos (the bad team) but the cheesiness and the colourful outfits meant it was an amazing visual experience. I have heard it's safe to go to the Lucha Libre as a tourist on your own and not as part of a hostel group; everyone there was really welcoming and offering to help explain the rules to us. So, I'd really recommend this as a Mexico City activity!
