6 years ago I did a backpacking trip through Central America, from Panama to the top of Guatemala. I could practically smell Mexico from there and many friends I met en route were doing over-the-border trips to Mexico and I really wanted to go but I decided that one day, I'd give myself a good few weeks to do Mexico "properly" (whatever that means!)
So it's taken me three years but here's the plan:
Mexico City
Puebla
Oaxaca
Puerto Escondido
San Cristobal de las Casas
Palenque
Campeche
Mérida
Tulum
Puerto Morelos
I'm slumming it in hostels and travelling by coach for the most part until the final two destinations where Rich will join me for more of a "holiday" vibe.
The thing I'm most excited about is seeing loads of the things I teach in real life, and being able to bring that back to the classroom in September. Thinking mainly about Year 12 and the cultural topics we do on art, architecture, history etc and Y13 with whom I study a Mexican novel, set during the revolution and focusing on Mexican food.
Hopefully you'll enjoy reading about my adventures as I travel!
Third photo is 16 hours after setting off so I'm very tired!
