I love this place! I'm reluctant to leave but I have really made sure to make the most of my two days here. When I leave tonight I have an overnight bus (10h 45m) instead of a hostel - fingers crossed I'll sleep!
I've tried to tire myself out today walking miles and miles! I did a walking tour and the focus was very much on Mexican history which I loved (two key former presidents were from Oaxaca) and also on food, which I also loved. We went to an organic food market and I ate a memela with chopped potatoes and chorizo - absolutely mesmerising. I found somewhere that made what looked like a chocolate milkshake but was so much better - raw cacao blended with cream. I also got to see and taste the 7 different types of mole.
I also happened upon a wonderful parade with amazing costumes and dancing. The festival originated in 1931 after a huge earthquake where all the districts came together with various foods and supplies and they all ate together and performed their local music and dancing and had such a great time they decided to do it every year forever more!
Finally I went for dinner and had quesadillas with guacamole and then queso fundido which is a sort of melted cheese pot with chorizo. Of course I had to try a traditional margarita to accompany!
