Today was a day of two halves. The secind half of the day needs its own blog post with a trigger warning!
This morning I walked around the beautiful city, went shopping in the artisenal markets to buy presents for family and prizes for the Year 9 students who so brilliantly contributed to this trip. I wanted to buy some home-made bracelets, worth. I said I wanted 12 and the man asked for $150MXN. I managed to convince him in Spanish to lower the price down to $100MXN by explaining they are for students who want to learn about Mexican culture. Don't worry - I haven't caused him to lose profit, as I had heard him selling one a few minutes prior for $10MXN to a local lady! I understand they want the extra money from tourists but this is one of the delights of being able to speak the language.
I took a hike to the top of the nearby hill, where stands the Church of Guadalupe. The view was breathtaking and the church beautiful. I was really out of breath, not only from the climb itself but from the high altitude. Before even climbing the hill, San Cris is already 2000+ metres above sea level.
I really was craving some churros as I've had some in Spain but I heard the Mexicans make them differently. I tried a few places but didn't like the look of them and finally found THE ONE. Best churros of my life!
